Foundation Sites

  • Alfred P. Sloan Foundation
    This foundation funds programs related to science and technology, economic performance, education, selected national issues, and civic programs. Information regarding available grants, guidelines, and applications can be found on this site.
  • Allstate Foundation
    Working in concert with Allstate insurance, this foundation funds over 1000 programs per year. Major focus areas include personal safety and security, neighborhood revitalization, and financial planning and education.
  • Annie E. Casey Foundation
    This foundation is dedicated to helping to build better futures for disadvantaged children living in the US. This large site contains information about fellowships, publications of the foundation, initiatives and links to their websites, and special projects of the foundation.
  • AT&T Foundation
    The mission of the AT&T Foundation is to educate and enrich the communities served by AT&T. The site contains information about the programs administered by the foundation, as well as funding and grant guidelines. The site also contains information about the "Teacher’s Network," a program designed to assist teachers in developing technology based lesson plans in the classroom.
  • Carnegie Corporation of New York
    This foundation administers grants and fellowships in the broad areas of education, international peace and security, international development, democracy, and special projects. This site contains guidelines for applying for grants, current news and research, and publications or the Carnegie Foundation. This site also contains links to other Carnegie Organizations and foundation or non-profit resources.
  • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
    This is the site for the procurement and grants office of the CDC. The CDC Foundation connects the public with CDC scientists and builds partnerships to champion CDC initiatives. Since its founding in 1994, the CDC Foundation has created more than 70 innovative programs to address a range of threats to public health. Thanks to the CDC Foundation, health office. There is information available about grants, cooperative agreements, and RFP solicitations.
  • The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation
    This foundation supports work in the following program areas: civil society, environment, pathways out of poverty, and exploratory and special projects. $50 million is awarded annually. Included in this site is information about applying for grants and foundation publications.
  • The Coleman Foundation
    This site contains information about the grant-making process of the Coleman foundation. Applicants for this grant must be non-profit organizations located primarily in the mid-west region of the United States. The broad areas of interest include entrepreneurship, awareness of education, cancer research, care, and treatment, housing and education for the handicapped, and diverse educational programs.
  • The Connelly Foundation - PA
    The goal of this private foundation is to enhance the quality of life in the Philadelphia region. Grants are provided for programs in education, health and human service, cultural, and civic organizations. Guidelines for applying are included on the site.
  • The Ford Foundation
    The Ford Foundation funds programs in the following broad areas: asset building and community development, peace and social justice, education, arts, and media. There are several sub- areas under each of these broad areas. This site also contains grant guidelines, links to publications, and other tools for grantmakers.
  • Fund for Rural America
    This site contains information about the competitive grants program for rural America, an initiative aimed at addressing the most pressing needs of rural America and improving the quality of life for people who live there. Last year, 115 projects were funded for$31 million.
  • Gates Foundation
    This Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation seeks to improve lives through health and learning. This site includes information on grant eligibility and current recipients, as well as an electronic library of grant related information. Most grants are target for communities in the Pacific Northwest and International.
  • Getty Research Institute
    This institute provides research grants and fellowships, as well as funding for public programs, exhibitions, and publications. There are also links to cross-cultural and cultural heritage information. The extensive site also contains specific funding information and on-line research library,
  • The Grable Foundation, Pittsburgh, PA
    This foundation administers grants in the areas of education, families, and communities, as well as related "special areas" of interest. The Grable Foundation focuses its resources primarily on the communities of southwestern Pennsylvania.
  • H. B. Fuller Co. Grants
    The H.B. Fuller company puts aside 2% of its pre-tax earning each year for responding to social needs in their communities. They support community-based initiatives in the following areas: education, community development, health and human services, the environment, and arts and humanities. Grant guidelines and applications are available at this site. Grants are target at organizations in communities where H.B. Fuller Company has its operations. Since most Fuller operations are located in urban areas, urban programs will be given priority.
  • The Heinz Endowments
    The mission of the Heinz foundation is to help those in need. Funding opportunities are available in the areas of education, health and human services, arts and culture, children, youth, and families, and environment with an emphasis on programs either in southwestern Pennsylvania or of clear benefit to the region. More information is available on each specific grant area.
  • Helen Bader Foundation
    This foundation funds projects in the areas of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, education, early childhood development in Israel, economic development, and Jewish life ad learning. They also fund community initiatives grants often reflect Helen Bader’s personal interests during her life, and the Foundation is supporting a number of groups which share Helen’s passion for string music.
  • The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation
    The foundation makes grants in three areas: human and community development, global security and sustainability, and special interest public-interest and media programs. An individual Fellowship program is also supported by this foundation. Guidelines and a listing of recently funded projects are available.
  • The Joyce Foundation
    The Joyce Foundation supports efforts to strengthen public policy in the Great Lakes region. Program areas include education, employment, environment, gun violence, money and politics, and culture. Grant guidelines and applications are available at this site.
  • The Knight Foundation
    This foundation offers grant opportunities in journalism, education, arts, and culture. Community initiative grants are also funded in specified communities. Information regarding the goals and objectives, history, and current initiatives in each grant area are available on this site.
  • Lucent Technologies Foundation
    The Lucent Foundation works to help youth in grades K-6 by focusing on six program areas: improving public schools, developing and supporting teachers, preparing youth for a diverse world, inspiring excellence in science, math, and engineering, engaging Lucent employees. Grants are focused on communities where Lucent employees live. Information regarding the grant proposal process, community relations, and other initiatives is available on this site.
  • Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation
    The MEA foundation supports projects that benefit young people with disabilities. Priority is given to projects in the communities where Mitsubishi Electric US companies are located. Further information about past and current grants and other publications is available at this site.
  • National Park Foundation
    This is the official site for the national park service. Through park philanthropy programs, grants are awarded to projects related to conservation and environmental education. Grants available at this site include "seed" grants to start new programs or challenge grants that are given with the expectation that monies will be matched by other sources.
  • National Institute of Mental Health
    The mission of NIMH is to diminish the burden of mental health through research. Research in funded in the areas of basic neuroscience, behavioral science, and genetics. A variety of links are available about funding opportunities, NIMH publications, and ongoing NIMH studies.
  • Nonprofit Gateway
    The Nonprofit Gateway is designed as a central starting point to help nonprofit organizations access online Federal information and services. Linked to all Cabinet Departments and many agencies, it contains information about grants, regulations, taxes, and other services as well as information on a wide range of other topics and programs.
  • Our Communities and the Prudential
    This site highlights the Prudential Foundation’s participation in community revitalization projects, volunteerism, and grant making. Overarching themes of programs funded by Prudential include "Ready to Learn", "Ready to Work", and "Ready to Live." Programs are targeted in cities where Prudential has a substantial presence.   • The (David & Lucille) Packard Foundation
    Grants are provided though this foundation in the following broad program areas: conservation, population, science, children, families and communities, arts, organizational effectiveness, and philanthropy. The foundation also has a special focus in the Northern California counties of San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and Monterey. $500 million in grants will be awarded in 2000.
  • The Pew Charitable Trusts
    The Pew Charitable Trust fund supports programming in six areas: culture, education, environment, health & human services, public policy, and religion. Grantees supported by the Pew Trust fund are primarily in the Philadelphia region. Guidelines and a listing of recently funded projects are available.
  • RR Donnelley Company
    Grants funded by the RR Donnelly Company support children and youth. Highest priority is given to projects that support the written word. Further grant information is listed under the public affairs heading of this page.
  • The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
    This foundation is dedicated to providing grants that can help to improve the health and the health care of all Americans. Information about specific grants and the application procedures are available, as well as information on past projects.
  • The Rockefeller Brothers Fund
    The site is provides information about grants, initiatives and programs administered by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. The major focuses include: sustainable resource use, non-profit sector, health, education, and arts and culture.   • The Russell Sage Foundation
    The Russell Sage Foundation is devoted to funding and publishing research in the social sciences. The focus of projects funded by this foundation included literacy, cultural relations, U.S. immigration research, and research related to work skills.   • Samuel S. Fels Fund
    This foundation has broad areas of interest in community programs, education, and the arts. Grants are restricted to organizations located in Philadelphia, PA, or focused on issues specific to this locale. Two types of projects are funded; (1) projects that prevent, lessen, or resolve contemporary social problems, or (2) projects that seek to provide permanent improvements in human daily life.
  • Soros Foundations (also Soros South Africa)
    The Soros Foundation is a network of smaller foundations dedicated to the development of an open society in countries around the world. Different grant making foundations function for each of these countries, and each has different priorities, goals, and programs.   • The Surdna Foundation
    The Surdna Foundation is a grant making foundation dedicated to projects in the areas of: the environment, community revitalization, effective citizenry, arts, nonprofit sector support, and organizational capacity building grants.   • The Tiger Woods Foundation
    This foundation funds programs in America’s urban areas that are designed to help underprivileged children and promote parental responsibility and involvement. Grants are awarded to programs related to children, family health and welfare, education, and parenting and youth development.   • W.K. Kellogg Foundation
    This foundation supports programs that focus on building the capacity of individuals, communities and institutions to solve their own problems.   • The Whitney Houston Foundation for Children
    The Whitney Houston Foundation for Children promotes programs designed that provide a supportive environment for children to express themselves and develop a positive self-image.   • William T. Grant Foundation
    The goal of this foundation is to create a society that values young people and enables them to reach their full potential. The foundation provides grants to support research in health, social, and behavioral sciences, as well as those fields traditionally concerned with youth development and mental health (i.e., pediatrics, psychology, psychiatry, and social work).   • The Willary Foundation- Pennsylvania

    The aim of the center is to increase the understanding of philanthropy through programs in research, teaching, public service, and public affairs.
