Modifications for Farm Operations
Modifications for agricultural worksites vary depending on the type of
disability and farm operation. The majority of AgrAbility clients in Pennsylvania
have sustained deterioration of joints, arthritis and back injuries from
years of farming.
Examples
of Modifications:
|

Mobility aides
of various types are available for farm operations to reduce the
strain on knees and hips when walking on uneven terrain. Farmers
use utility vehicles to check fences, monitor plant growth, bring
in cows for milking, and haul supplies.
|

Automatic hitching
systems are extremely valuable for a farmer with joint injury
and/or arthritis in his/her knees and hips. Frequently, this farmer
has difficulty getting on and off of the tractor and the quick attach
hitches enable them to hitch and unhitch wagons without getting
off of the tractor. The hitching system not only reduces strain
on joints, but also increases productivity.

Automatic Take-off Units
(Photo coming soon)
It is very common for a dairy farmer to have had knee replacements because
of the strain placed on their knees when milking in a tie-stall barn.
One of the few modifications for a tie-stall barn is the use of automatic
take-off milking units. For example: If a person is milking 100 head,
the automatic take-off units will reduce the number of times the farmer
has to bend by at least 73,000 time per year!
